That weekend, the 30th anniversary of the last coal-fired DB Pacifics in the Rheine area ought have been commemmorated, but DB banned steam operatoions due to hot weather conditions and the risk of bush fires. Instead of two steam locos, the Dutch railway fans that travveled from Rotterdam to Rheine had to make do with an old electric.

On 2 December 2023 SSN organised an extra Kerst-Express (X-Mas Xpress) from Rotterdam to Aachen because the first (schedukled for 16 December) sold out within a week. To accommodate the many disappointed would-be travellers, SSN organised a second Kerst-Express two weeks before the original scheduled one. After SSN 23 023 -which brought inmto Venlo the steamer- goty off the train, CBB 110 278 is being coupled (and filmed! -note the cameraman leaning out of the window of the first coach) to the Kerst-Express at Venlo on 2 December 2023. 
