With the sectorisation of the locomotive fleet in branches DB Fernverkehr, DB Regio and DB Cargo, some thoughts were comtemplated about ending the DB corporate identity and giving the locos the colours of their branch. The only effect was 234 304 that carries the the mint green of the DB Regio coaches. From 1998 however, traffic red was chosen as the new DB corporate identity, making 234 304 a one-off.
