Since the Gotthard Highway Tunnel, which opened in 1981, needs to be renovated, they have the luxury of building a second tube during the renovation. After the renovation, both tubes will offer more safety by separating traffic directions, but will only be allowed to have one lane per tube. It will be interesting to see whether this will be adhered to... The excavated material will be transported to Flüelen by train. The Railpool 186 497 has arrived in Airolo with its block freight train consisting of Sggrrs S 204 double wagons. The wagons are then maneuvered under the loading device (left in the picture) and loaded. January 21, 2025

How times change: a few years ago I would have turned up my nose and not photographed the ICN passing through Airolo, today I am happy that I can photograph an ICN between all the  Giruno  trains: The SBB RABe 500 006   Johanna Spyri  as IC 2 10865 on the way from Zurich HB to Lugano passes the highlight of its journey in Airolo and is now heading through the Leventina towards its destination drive. Of course, I also photographed the RABe 501  Giruno , which has since become dominant on the Gotthard axis; No matter how dominant they may be, they are not an everyday occurrence on the  Gotthard Panorama Route : As a result of planned maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, most IC/EC will run from Monday to Friday from January 13th to January 24th, 2025 via Göschenen - Airolo . After the sun disappeared behind the mountains in Airolo at midday, things turned out well in Göschenen from midday onwards. The picture was taken near the Göschenen entrance signal and shows the two SBB RABe 501 016  Glarus  at the front and 501 008  Monte Ceneri  at the end as IC 21 10671 on the journey from Basel SBB to Lugano.

On 15 September 2011 DB Cargo 185 113 prepares to depart from Erstfeld on to the Gotthard Line and therefore she will receive assistance in the guise of a banking locomotive. Since the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnen in September 2016, scnes as these at Erstfeld station are consigned to the past.

 Long-distance traffic  on the Train de Vignes route: the SBB Flirt3 RABe 523 503  Mouette  (RABe 94 85 0 523 503-6 CH-SBB), which was purchased for long-distance traffic, is running as S7 on the Train de Vignes route between Vevey and Puidoux. The picture was taken in Vevey  The following day the Flirt3  Mouette  was replaced by a domino train. February 15, 2023
