France not only offers fast trains but also very comfortable ones: Shortly after the departure from the valley station, the fer de la Rhune He 2/2, built in 1914 by the SLM/BBC, arrives with its first train of the day at Vmax 9 km/h the journey to the summit of La Rhune. The “valley station” refers to the Col de Saint-Ignace pass at 198 m above sea level. As you can see, the train also runs in bad weather.

One of the six Chemin de Fer de La Rhune He 2/2 three-phase locomotives is almost at the destination of the journey with its train: at the La Rhune summit station at 905 meters above sea level.

We drove up the Col de St-Ignace again in cloudy weather, but there was a slightly better opportunity to photograph the Chemin de Fer de la Rhune. Despite the bad weather, an He 2/2 leaves the Ignace train station and heads to the LaRhune summit. (We didn't go up again in this weather, but instead looked at the surrounding area and later Spain).
