175 years of Swiss railways, and to mark the anniversary, in addition to a Re 4/4 II, this SBB Re 460 019 was also covered with an anniversary film. The SBB Re 460 019 with the IR 90 1720 near St-Saphorin.

My last picture that I'll post on rail-pictures.com this year and it's actually quite fitting. The IRSI/IGE Re 4/4 II 11387 (Re 421 387-2) is waiting with its ZRT New Year's Eve train in the style of the Belle Epoque in Lausanne for its departure to Frankfurt am Main HBF. It's been some time since I was able to photograph a Re 4/4 II in front of a passenger train in Lausanne. Since the locomotive will remain on the train until Frankfurt and will return to Lausanne on January 1st, 2024.

My last picture that I'll post on rail-pictures.com this year and it's actually quite fitting. I was now able to make up for the trip that was postponed in mid-December due to weather reasons (danger of landslides) and so the “last trip to Italy in 2023” has become the “first trip to Italy in the new year 2024”. It should be noted that the  trip to Italy  was more than short at just over 50 minutes... Long story short: through a fence loophole in Iselle I was able to use my old camera to shoot the BLS Re 4/4 194 with its AT3 ( Birg - Iselle car tunnel) and also include part of the Iselle reception building in the left part of the picture. Despite the blue sky, which here is only overexposed pink, the sun doesn't seem to find its way into the deep valley at this time of year. January 3, 2024

The BLS Re 4/4 191 in Kandersteg. The end of use of the BLS Re 474 (Re 425) seems to be foreseeable. A few locomotives are still used in car tunnel traffic, but preparations are already being made to replace them in the form of the BLS Re 465.

Coming from Spiez, BLS 465 018 hauls the Golden Pass Panoramic Express dual-gauge train set into Zweisimmen on 1 January 2024. Here, the standard gauge electric will be swap[ped for a narrow gauge MOB machine, that on departure gently takes the train through a gauge changer before continuing toward Gstaadt and Montreux.

Still going strond is BLS 179 at Brig on 1 January 2024. Although she has no duties, her pantograph is raised because the temperatures are sub-zero and catching current from the catenary warms the loco a bit, preventing frost damage.

An SBB Re 460 leaves Lausanne with its HVZ IR 90 towards Geneva. In the foreground you can still see a DKW that is no longer in use, but the actual motif is the Bpm in green/gray directly behind the locomotive. Bpm in and of itself are quite rare, and in green/gray they are almost rarely seen in planned use. The car has the UIC number B 50 85 21-73 518-5 CH-SBB. May 17, 2023

The picture shows the BLS Re 4/4 192 with its tunnel train in Goppemstein station. On the right of the picture, the worn out BLS RABe 521 can still be seen as the R1 from Bern to Brig.

However, the route to the tunnel offers good opportunities to photograph the last BLS Re 4/4 in use. I still stayed at Kandersteg train station and was able to photograph the BLS Re 4/4 185 with its car tunnel train in the station.
