NSR organised a farewell trip through the Netherlands, using NS 1761 with a rake of DBIC coaches, notmally deployed on the IC-Berlijn (Amsterdam to Bad Bentheim); the last passenger services for this once ubiquitious class electrics. On 19 November 2023 NS 1761 stands in Nijmegen, where she will take a break of ten minutes before continuing to Tilburg and Rotterdam, places, the IC-Berlijn was never to be seen. The phrase at the loco says "after more than 30 years of yeoman service it is time to say goodbye.".

After decades in yellow, some ex-NS 1600s saw a red carreer with DBSRN, like 1614 hauling a rake of ÖBB open wagons into Tilburg on 14 April 2014.

On 18 May 2019 ex-NS, later DBSRN 1604 hauls a train with natural gas kettles through Dordrecht Zuid. ONe year later, the carreer within DB Schenker Rail Nederland ended for Class 1600 due to the influx of DB Class 193.3 Vectrons. Almost all ex=DBSRN 1600s have sadly been scrapped.

On 21 August 1996 Stichting De Hondekop held their first excursion with their recently acquired EMU 766, sen here that day during the excursion at Onnen. The EMU carries the NS Reizigers colours, albeit with a phantasy moustache. Later on, the 766 will be repainted in the green with beige moustaches as being delivered in the 1950s.

On 3 March 1988 NS DE-II 171 quits Simpelveld to Kerkrade in the last year of NS operations on this Miljoenenlijn -a nice, but due to the geography rather expensive line to build. After NS left, ZLSM was founded to save the line for touristic trains with steam traction and op till this day, ZLSM has survived, albeit as part of a regional effort to raise income by a touristic train in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands.

From 14 December 2025 Eurobahn promises to handle all services between Venlo and Mönchengladbach in an hourly pattern (which they were supposed to do anyway according to contract), but if that will pass?

This is not a double traction. On 22 November 2025 CD Cargo 383 015 decided she had done enough for the day on departure from Bad Bentheim in Germany for the ride to Beverwijk Tata Steel and so the rather decrepid RFO 1831 was rushed onto the train for the ride in the Netherlands. Almost all freights from Bad Bentheim pause for about half an hour at Amersfoort and here CD Cargo decided she will go on after all. She has raised a pantograph to test and diagnose the technical failure and solve it, with RFO 1831 still on the train just in case. This gave at Amersfoort a colourfull train which seems in double traction.

On 2 May 2016 PKP/SKM 111Eb002 pushes a double deck train out of Warszawa-Wschodnia and is adjourned with Polish flags because of two holidays (1 May, Labour Day and 3 May, a national holiday) within half a week. The bridging day, 2 May, is therefore used to play the final of the POlish socer cup.

In for the long haul: Stichting CREW 2454 bought this 99 years old electric rail car Mat'24 Blokkendoos C-9002 'JAAP' from a defunct preservationists' society that went bankrupt. The new owner, already in posession of some very fine restored items, took no half measures and deployed JAAP on a series of test rides of increasing lengths. The last test ride was on 16 April 2023 and took the 9002 from Roosendaal via Tilburg, Nijmegen, Zwolle and Groningen back to Roosendaal -via Amersfoort, Utrecht and Breda. Roosendaal-Groningen is about the longest ride a train can make in the Netherlands and was an ideal close of the test programme. Here, C-9002 stands at Nijmegen, where she had some minor maintenance before departing for the long haul. Since thereis not yet a category 'historic EMUs' I put this one into Stations-Gelderland.

In fact, the TPC Beh 2/6 railcars have been registered on both the AOMC and ASD lines since their commissioning, but only today did I see one traveling to Les Diablerets for the first time. Waiting in Aigle for departure are: TPC Beh 2/6 544 as R 72 32 to Champéry and Beh 2/6 547 as R 71 428 to Les Diablerets.

For gravel transport, GFM acquired two railcars, designated BDe 4/4 141 and 142, in 1972. These railcars were initially used with gravel trains and a control car. Later, they operated as shuttle trains in regional services for GFM and TPF, each time sporting the then-current livery. "GFM Histoique" restored its BDe 4/4 141 and displays it in its original colors. The relatively modern design, combined with the already somewhat dated 1972 livery, gives the BDe 4/4 141 a particularly striking and visually appealing contrast.

With 20% more passengers, the Alpes region is reaching its capacity limits and has therefore leased a RABe 528 MIKA train from BLS. This train covers two to three round trips from Monday to Friday, freeing up Domino trains to reinforce other services. On 26 May 2019 NS 186 114 hauls ICR stock through Tilburg Oude Warande. Since December 2025 all ICR hauled services have been consigned to the past, ending 150 years of loco haulauge passenger trains in national scheduled services within the Netherlands. Only international trains to and from Belgium and over night trains still are loco haule4d.

RRF 18 hauls the Routier intermodal train into Venlo on 6 December 2025 from Gekkengraaf. At Venlo, an Ecco Rail electric loco will take over this train to Germany and Austria.

Time warp? On 6 December 2025 DB 111 158 stands at Venlo with an extra train to Bonn that constists of some DB coahces from the 1960s and 1970s, but also one or two coaches from the 1930s. The much more modern ICE Class 407 awaits departure on track 3 in the back ground.

On 4 November 2017 historic EMU 766 stands in Amsterdam Centraal, carrying stickers to celebrate 150 years of the Red Cross. In the event of hostilities between the East and the West during the Cold War (in that event having turned quite hot) such EMUs would have ben commandeered by the Army to be used as mobile hospitals and in the 1960s they might have looked a bit like this: green EMUs with clearly visible Red Cross markings.

OOC 691 shunts on 29 July 2014 at Oss. A few years later however, OCC found these shunters a tad to weak and ordered four-axle shunters sewcond hand from Strukton. The 691 however operates now at Vlissingen-Sloehaven.

The 58 311 was built in 1921 by MGB K (Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Karlsruhe) as G 12 Baden 1125, with factory number 2153. Later, the locomotive was operated by the DR (Deutsche Reichsbahn) first as 58 311 and from 1968 as 58 1111-2. Today, the now 104-year-old locomotive is operated by the UEF (Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde – Ulm Railway Enthusiasts) as D-UEF 90 80 0058 311-6 or 58 311, where it is a much-loved museum locomotive. The picture shows the magnificent steam locomotive in Titisee, ready for departure with a steam train of the Three Lakes Railway bound for Seebrugg.

Another view of the two stations, Belfort-Montbéliard TGV (below) and Meroux (above). The TGV LYRIA 9203 from Paris Gare de Lyon to Zurich, consisting of trainset 4726, offers a rather tight connection to the SNCF Z73800 Coradia A TER "Baleine" waiting at Meroux station, bound for Belfort. Why diesel multiple units are now (also) being used on the electrified Delle - Belfort line is beyond my knowledge. December 10, 2025

The SNCF X 73800 Coradia A TER "Baleine" is waiting in Meroux for departure as MOBIGO TER 895052 to Belfort. Since MOBIGO TER 895052 is scheduled to leave Meroux at 9:43, it misses the connection with the RE56 arriving here from Bile/Bienne at 9:56.

SNCF Z 27516, operating as MOBIGO TER 894008, is en route from Belfort to Besançon Viotte and has arrived at Montbéliard station. Montbéliard lies on the Dole–Belfort line, opened in 1858, and is currently served by TER trains. Before the opening of the TGV line, however, it also had long-distance services, such as night trains from Luxembourg to Port Pou and the SNCF Tourbotrain multiple units from Lyon to Strasbourg. Furthermore, a line connected Montbéliard with Delle from 1868, but passenger service on this line was discontinued in 1938. December 9, 2025
