A miserable (cell phone) photo quality, a miserable photo location - but when was the last time a passenger train ran with an SBB Re 6/6?*
For this reason I dare to show this picture here: the SBB Re 6/6 11622 (Re 620 022-4) "Suhr" leaves Lausanne with the traditional New Year's Eve train of "L'Association 141 R 568" in the direction of Bern and as you can see the train at the front is the noble "Dining Car" 2749"
*To my amazement the answer should be: 12/15/24!

BLS 465 010 pauses at Kandersteg on 1 January 2025: due top the frost, all pausing electrics have one pantograph raised to the wire. Whilst this convoy enjoys the Sun, many a 465 nbanks car carrying trains from the Autoverlade to Goppenstein at about each train per ten minutes.

On 29 December 2024 EFZ 52 7596 enters Hausach with a special train. This train is deployed traditionally each year by EFZ between St.Georgen and Triberg -but since both stations are way to small and cramped to gibve the loco fresh water and to stable the train set for two hours, the second train naturally is lengthened to Hausach, where there is obviously enough space to refresh the loco and stable the train set -and giving paying passengers an extra ride!

The white-grey CB Rail/Macquarie/Akiem TRAXX 186s are gone from the NS Reizigers ranks, the NMBS Class 28 also don't haul the Dutch ICR coaches anymore and only yellow and blue liveried NS Class 186 are still to be seen hauling ICR-stock, the days of which also are numbered.

On 4 January 2025 the Sun starts setting above Lage zwaluwe when RFO 6702 was seen there. This loco used to be an NMBS/SNCB HLD Class 62/63 and became ACTS 6702 when sold to that now defunct Dutch private railway operator. LOCON Benelux had this loco in an orange-white outfirt, but collapsed on her turn. RFO took some contracts and half of the loco fleet from LOCON and decided to apply her own two-tone grey colour scheme on this loco albeit with the darker grey outlined in NMBS 1970s style.

The Mallet steam locomotive 2-8-8-2 - Y6b 2197 of the Norfolk & Western, which is powerful even in H0, fights its way through the snow. The design of the Mallet model locomotives is based on information provided by the U.S.R.A. (United States Raitroad Administration) introduced during the First World War. The class Y6b locomotives were delivered from 1936. Basically, the Y6b class was designed to pull heavy freight trains at 30 mph, but in good conditions up to 50 mph could be achieved.
The model of this articulated locomotive type Mallet “Y 6 b” from the “Norfolk & Western” is probably a good 50 to 60 years old and is a very impressive model implementation in terms of size. It doesn't seem entirely logical to me why the engine was squeezed into the driver's cab with so much space in order to then drive the distant "bogies" using long cardan shafts. The tender is prototypically equipped with two three-axle "Buckeye" bogies, which are also used to collect power.
The model probably hasn't been driven for a good twenty to thirty years. After I dismantled the model and degreased and re-oiled the moving parts, it has been running again since yesterday, even if I have both the cars and the route for the discontinuation of the mighty model missing.

How well the CJ can still open the windows on some trains (but unfortunately can hardly be closed anymore...): When entering Combe Tabeillon I was able to photograph the CJ Be 4/4 616 with a freight train.
The freight train waits for our train and then heads towards La Chaux de Fonds. Combe Tabillon is a Spitzkher station, as can still be found every now and then in the Jura.

A few minutes later the CEV MVR ABeh 2/6 7504 "Vevey" arrived at the pretty Chamby train station as R 34 2317 on the way from Les Avants to Montreux. Chamby is located at 749 m above sea level. There is hardly any snow to be seen here.

As the kilometer sign on the contact line mast on the right of the picture shows, Montreux is only 8 km from Les Avants. The Combe Tabeillon train station was built at the very back in the deep valley. Here the CJ trains change their direction on the journey from Glovelier to La Chaux de Fonds. Through this hairpin bend, the route gains the necessary altitude on this route.

Of course, I also photographed the RABe 501 "Giruno", which has since become dominant on the Gotthard axis; No matter how dominant they may be, they are not an everyday occurrence on the "Gotthard Panorama Route": As a result of planned maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, most IC/EC will run from Monday to Friday from January 13th to January 24th, 2025 via Göschenen - Airolo . After the sun disappeared behind the mountains in Airolo at midday, things turned out well in Göschenen from midday onwards. The picture was taken near the Göschenen entrance signal and shows the two SBB RABe 501 016 "Glarus" at the front and 501 008 "Monte Ceneri" at the end as IC 21 10671 on the journey from Basel SBB to Lugano.

Dispolok mercenary ME 26-09 stands in Esch-sur-Alzette on 26 May 2004. Six of these locos were leased by CFL Cargo to plug in the gap that threatened to come with the demise of Classes 800, 850 and 900 in anticipation of newer Diesel locos. Class ME 26 were the less-than-succesfull Norwegian NSB Class Di.6, twelve of which were delivered to NSB in 1998. After two years of constant failures NSB revoked the contract with the builder, Siemens, and received their moneys back. Siemens immideatelt decided to sell her Diesel locomotive production capacities to MaK after the Norwegian debacle.

Top shot on BLS 501 at Spiez on 2 January 2020. This loco has been sold to Verein Extrazug.CH and that organisation is in the proces of restoring this loco back to her original condition as green SBB 11110, including the rounded head lights. TOM, former Hoogovens Lok 22 runs light at the SCM in Maldegem on 6 May 2023 during the Steam Weekend. Due to environmental issues and controversies, Tata Steel, owner of two steam engines, decided to quit steam excursions on their areal and sold the two steamers. TOM has found a new asylum in Maldegem.

On the most recent British Coronation Day 6 May 2023, Loco 22 TOM gets her steam shuttle train to eeklo at the little platform at Maldegem. The pub in the back ground offers a nioce collection of highly enjoyable Belgian beers!.

On 6 May 2023 TOM, a.k.a. Tata Steel 22 has arrived at Eeklo with her steam shuttle from Maldegem. Due to environmental controversies concerning the Tata steel plant at IJmuiden, the steel giant decided against further steam excursions on her terrain and planted Loco 22 with the SCM in Belgium and four-axle loco 57 'BONNE' at the Miljoenenlijn/ZLSM in the very southern tip of the Netherlands.

Former SNCB 8040, now SCM 260.040 stands at Maldegem during the SCM's annual Steam Weekend on 6 May 2023. Between 1960 and 1963, SNCB received 69 locos of this type and numbered them into the 260 series -at the same time Deutsche Bundesbahn numbered the same type into Class V 60. After 1968 DB pressed a new number system into service, turning Class V 60 into 260 and quickly after that into 360. About the same time, in 1971, SNCB got a new four digit number system, where the Class numbers 260.0 were abandoned in favour of Class 80 (8001-8069). Note that Class 260/80 differs clearly from other shunter Classes 83-85 but look quite similar to Classes 73 and 82, the more powerful versions of Class 80.
